Whether you have an Advisory Board or a Board of Directors, the key to being a successful board begins with having a strategic focus with shared goals.  Afterall, everyone has an agenda – a reason why they are part of your WBC and the things they believe are essential to your success.  The key to being an effective board is ensuring that your advisors, board members and WBC directors all have the same agenda in the form of a simple strategy that guides your decisions and actions.

In this training we will provide insight into what it takes to be an effective board member, as well provide specific training in how to use a simple framework for how to think and act strategically together.

This introductory training will be delivered in two virtual 90-minute sessions.  The first part will introduce the executive directors and their board members to the concepts, practices, and value of being strategic.  You will be given a simple assignment to integrate what you learned and prepare for part 2.  In part 2 you will learn how to use the strategic framework to get clear, focus on what matters most and work smarter.  This includes making decisions together and choosing projects/initiatives that will best leverage your resources.

We are also including a segment on the role of board members in fundraising because this is essential to running an effective center.  In this segment we will apply the Strategy in Action™ framework specifically to fundraising.  Our intention is to provide insight into how you can enroll and engage your board members in embracing their role as fundraisers.

While the creation of a complete Strategy in Action™ plan for your center will likely require more time and possibly support than this short program provides, you will find the approach and way of thinking about success, as well as the simple framework and practices you will learn will be immediately applicable in your everyday work.
